It’s taken thousands of years
For some to live free
But not for all in the world
For some still bend a knee
The US had it and real damn good
But do any remember now
Just how good they once stood
What is it about the search after power
That throws freedom away leaving just darkened hours
No longer sharing the light fought for by millions
Laughing at the Rule Of Law now clouded by dollars in the billions
Corruption seems the norm made possible by compliance
As elected lawmakers watch the law-breaking US blight
Letting the Rule Of Law be thrown out by the use of might
As the authoritative road is paved smooth, climbing to new heights
War but a detail ordered by those not given the right
In the mid-east conflicts that never see a peaceful light
While the UN condemns the genocide that created the dark night
Nothing stops the war that echos Gaza’s black plight
Maga trying to stuff others into compliant sacks
Sneering at nations as they try to wrest control with the US economic axe
But those that are threatened have an unyielding democratic spin
As they watch US democracy roasting; let’s hope it never burns thin
